THE DEAN HOPKINS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Dean Hopkins spent his 70 years on earth giving back to others. He grew up in the depression with a big family of 10 children, with responsibilities to his younger siblings. As a child when he had free time, baseball was his passion. He managed to develop skills that lead him to signing a contract with the Chicago Cubs Organization right out of High School. He enjoyed a great career until he served in the United States Army.

Upon returning from the war, Dean resumed his passion for baseball often was found coaching children in his neighborhood. Soon the word spread that there was a guy that was available to help craft better techniques in baseball. The children flocked to him for advise. He would spend several hours a day hitting balls, talking, can sometimes counseling them. Often times you would find a child or two at his home when things would be bad at home and they needed to seek refuge. He gave the shirt off of his back to help every child in need. The profound effect he had on so many of these children can be seen today, as they carry on his legacy of making certain that every child matters and has a chance to become whatever their dream is in life.

Dean was not a wealthy man, and gave what he had to those in need. For him, it was not about him, it was about helping someone in need. He believed in everyone and lived by example.

That is why Dean Hopkins will Forever Be My Hero, My Mentor, My Life Coach and My Father. I am carrying on his legacy by helping those less fortunate with a Scholarship Fund that will help anyone in need to achieve their goals while they are in school in the medical field.
